Our History
Performance Incorporated
was established in 1974. The founder had worked for NADA and
believed there was a need for a 20 Group type program in the
Canadian automobile dealer market. As a result of a 10 year non-compete
agreement with NADA, he worked exclusively with Canadian automobile
dealers applying the experience he had gained with NADA to establish
the newly named Performance Groups program. Performance Incorporated
remains to this day the market leader in Canada, delivering Performance
Groups programs across the country in both English and French.
Upon the expiry of the non-compete
agreement, Performance began to aggressively solicit the U.S.
market and is now firmly entrenched as a supplier of Performance
Groups.
In the intervening years Performance
expanded in many areas based in large part through referrals
of satisfied clients:
The provision of data processing and
composite services for several manufacturers began in 1986.
In
1988, Management Performance Groups for Fixed Operation Managers
and Sales Managers were created to help develop the skills of
the management teams of our client automobile dealers.
In 1990,
Performance developed the accounting statement and chart of accounts
for SeaRay Boats along with Performance Groups for SeaRay boat
dealers.
In 1992, Performance entered the
heavy-duty truck market, establishing Performance Groups for
heavy-duty truck dealers and providing data processing and composite
services for OEM’s.
In 1993, Performance purchased Gorman
Planning out of Virginia Beach. Gorman Planning was a leading
provided of 20 Group Services to RV Dealers.
Performance has
continued to expand by offering Performance Groups programs for
many different industries including Truck Accessory Dealers,
Photography Stuios, Home Hardware Dealers, Motorcycle Dealers,
Outdoor Sport Dealers and ABBRA/Marina Dealers.
In 1994, ADP purchased Performance
Incorporated. The clout of a Fortune 500 Company has fueled our
multi-pronged growth and has helped Performance Inc. to provide
superior client service.
Currently, there are more than one
hundred Performance Groups. Combined with the manufacturer services
division, Performance Incorporated processes over 2000 financial
statements per month.
In an effort to support the Performance
Groups Program, several successful products have been developed:
The Multi-Franchise composite allows an apple to apples comparison
of the financial performance of different franchise dealerships.
With the advent of market consolidation and single owner dealer
groups, this product has become more and more in demand.
The
Forecast/Trend Composite allows dealers to trend all operating
and financial aspects of their dealership for the last 12 months
and the last five years. This product is also used to assist
dealers in creating accurate, functional forecasts that are monitored
through the Forecast composite.
Performance Inc. also provides
a specialized F&I composite which allows in depth analysis of all aspects
of the workings of the Business Office, both at on a group and
dealership comparison basis.
The web based Pre-Owned Vehicle
Analyzer (PVA) was introduced in 2001 and has been a very successful
tool for dealerships in effectively managing their used vehicle
inventories.
This year, Performance introduced
our most technologically advanced product, the webComposite.
The webComposite is an internet based product that allows dealers
to selectively compare, trend, and sort all of the information
in a traditional composite. The webComposite is a ground breaking
product that will dramatically alter the traditional thinking
of a composite.
Although Performance Groups are the
core of our business, Performance Incorporated also provides
a wide range of consulting and training services in the areas
of Variable Operations, Fixed Operations and Business Management.
Performance provides these services
both under contract to several manufacturers as well as on an
individual dealer basis. The proven improvement in performance
brought about by this training and consulting is well documented
and as such has made this the fastest growing part of our business.
Our training consulting programs
range from single day, open enrollment courses in a variety of
Business Management and Fixed Operation topics, to several day,
in-dealership performance assessment and improvement programs.
